Women to scale Annapurna
In an effort to encourage women’s involvement in adventure tourism, four Nepali women are planning to scale Mt Annapurna IV (7,525m) this spring. The Nepali Women Annapurna Expedition 2001 has Nirma Rai of Solukhumbu, Muna Gurung of Manang, Saraswati BK of Kaski and Shantikala Rai of Solukhumbu raring to climb the peak. The expedition is jointly organised by the Pokhara chapter of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal, Annapurna chapter of Nepal Mountaineering Association and Pokhara-based Empowerment of Women Nepal.
