Nagarkot Changunarayan hiking is one of the best day hike around Kathmandu valley, for the short time travelers, trying to escape from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu valley. After a pleasant drive for 90 minutes on black topped road from Kathmandu passing through historical city Bhaktapur, lush green vegetation, Army officer candidate school, we reach Nagarkot(2100m). The sunrise and sunset view from the lap of Giant snow peaks from Nagarkot is majestic.
From Nagarkot we start our hike, crossing through the terraced fields, dense Tamang traditional village, with typical country side houses painted with locally found Ocher. It is amazing to see how the village along the trail still exhibits Nepal country side lifestyle even though it is so close to capital city. On the trail we can see local people making local wine called “Raksi”, prepared by a simple process of distillation by cooking food grains, like maize, millet & wheat. On the first part of the hiking we experience culture & life style of the native people on the trail.
Second part of the hiking is more natural, passing through deciduous forest, a close watch to flora & fauna. We have to climb the first 20 minutes, and a normal flat country side trail (2 hours). The best of all is the Himalayan in the back drop of these entire natural setting. Finally we reach Cahngunarayan, an oldest pagoda style temple in Kathmandu. One can see world praised master pieces of stoned sculpture. The site is under UNESCO world heritage site. Our hiking ends here, with a transfer to Kathmandu by private coach.
Changunarayan to Nagarkot Hiking is the 1-day itinerary to explore the hilly arena of Kathmandu Valley. This hiking journey starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Changunarayan Temple, and then only the actual hike to Nagarkot starts.
Itinerary - Nagarkot Changunarayan Day Hiking
Drive from Kathmandu to Nagarkot and hike to reach Changunarayan
(Lunch) 
After breakfast at your hotel in Kathmandu, we drive from Kathmandu to Nagarkot (2158m), stroll around for half an hour. Walk down to the start point of the hiking.
After an easy hiking for 4 hours crossing local settlements, majestic Himalaya, flora & fauna, we reach Changunarayan, the end point of our hiking.
Lunch at Changunarayan. After lunch drive from Changunarayan to Kathmandu.
