Trip Overview

Gokyo Chola Pass trek 18 days

Gokyo Chola Pass trek 18 days Cost / Price: $1400.00 per person (Minimum Group Size: 02)

Gokyo Chola Pass trek to Gokyo Ri is less travelled compared to the more traditional Everest Base Camp Trek, however, trek to Gokyo Chola Pass offers similar views and more solitiude along the trail.

Gokyo Chola Pass is one of the most famous and adventurous treks in the Everest region. Gokyo Chola Pass trek is the culmination of classic tradition, culture and top class of adventures as it combines entire upper Khumbu, crystal Gokyo Lake, renowned viewpoint Gokyo-Ri and ofcouse, the base of world's tallest mountain, Everest.

After Short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the trail twists ups and down through the prosperous Sherpa hub like Namche, Thame, Khumjung, Phortse and Dhole to Gokyo Lake at 4790m. Views of western shoulder of Mt. Everest, Lotse Nuptse and far away Makalu are excellent from Gokyo Ri (5483 m.). Then crossing over Cho La Pass (5667 m.), trail heads up to Kalapattar at 5545 m. Finally trek demanding previous experience and walking over the pass in to the himalayas, takes you into the heart of the mountains and the culture of the Everest region to the foot of the great peaks itself.

The first few days of the Gokyo Ri trek are the same as those of the Everest Base Camp Trek as one have to walk down the same trekking trail. Most trekkers fly into the Lukla airport where the trail winds through pine forests before a steep climb to Namche Bazaar and a more alpine type environment. Shortly after Namche, you veer off from the path to Tengboache and head through the villages of Dole, Machhermo, and eventually Gokyo.

The summit push from Gokyo is quiet pleasant when compared to the long day up to Kala Pathar. The views are equally stunning, although Mount Everest does take a little bit of a back seat to the expansive views of the valley as seen from Gokyo Ri.
