ILAM: Guphathumki, a tourist destination situated on the border between Mangalbare and Santidanda VDC of Ilam district, is slipping into obscurity due to lack of promotion. Locals say Guphathumki was the place of meditation of the endangered Lapcha community.
The place offers panoramic views of the entire 48 VDCs and one municipality of Ilam, plain areas of Terai, several Himalayan ranges, sunrise and sunset.
“Till now there is no route to reach Guphathumki. No effort has been made to promote the tourist destination,” said a local, Krishna Acharya.
Former Chairman of Mangalbare VDC Ram Rana said, “The danda represents the entire district. It has immense potential for paragliding.” Some plans are afoot at the local level to promote Guphathumki ahead of Nepal Tourism Year 2011, he added.
