Flights halted at TIA

KATHMANDU: Owing to the cracks on its runway, the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) authorities halted flights for about three hours on Thursday. No plane landed and took off between 11.20 am and 2.30 pm, said TIA officials. Two flights were diverted to Kolkata. However, the operation resumed after 2.30 pm, following the repair of the cracks, according to the TIA’s Information Centre. An official informed that the runway sustained cracks due to the pressure of heavy aircraft that landed on the airport in the last three days. “Some planes were far more heavier than the runway capacity,” he added.
