Switzerland to open embassy from Aug 17


Switzerland will be officially opening its embassy in Kathmandu from August 17, according to Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC). Switzerland has appointed Thomas Gass as its first envoy to Nepal. He will be presenting his letter of credential to President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav on Friday.

“Marking the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Nepal-Swiss Development Cooperation, we are going to set up an embassy at SDC premises. Martin Dahinden, Director General of SDC will inaugurate the embassy,” Chewang Nudup, officer at SDC told the Post.

Currently, the honorary consulate general is looking after visa and other regular affairs.

After establishment of the Swiss embassy here, the number of foreign missions in Kathmandu will reach 25, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
