HAN handed over Visit Nepal 2011 concept


A delegation of Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) met with Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hisila Yami and handed over a "Conceptual Proposal for the Observance of Visit Nepal Year 2011" to her at the ministry on Thursday. The proposal was prepared by HAN, according to the association.

Led by HAN’s President Prasiddha B. Panday, delegation called for laying necessary thrust on sustainable development of existing tourism infrastructures and construction of new ones, enhancement of tourism products and services, marketing, promotion and publicity, training and motivation to make the upcoming tourism campaign a success.

Speaking about the proposal, the association’s President Panday stressed the need for the government to initiate the construction works of the proposed international airport at Nijgadh and regional airports at Pokhara and Bhairahawa as soon as possible.

Considering adventure sports as one of the major products of comparative advantage in Nepal, Panday recommended for organising various regional and international adventure events such as mountain bike championships, Everest air jumping shows, high mountain skiing, balloon show, river rafting competitions, hand gliding shows, bungy jumping, rock climbing, high altitude marathons, high altitude grand master tennis competition, 20/20 cricket tournament, elephant polo competition, and triathlon during Visit Nepal Year.

He said that a vigorous promotional and publicity plan has to be devised for promoting the country both at national and international levels. "In order to gear up the publicity campaign, various print, electronic media and other publicity materials containing VNY 2011 logo in stickers, posters, post cards, postage stamps, video/audio cassettes, slides, photographs and T-shirts have to be produced," he added.

Following the his presentation, Minister Yami assured the delegation that she would organise a joint meeting of public and private sector to discuss further about the concept and programmes of Visit Nepal Year 2011, a press release issued by HAN stated.

Other members of the delegation included B.K. Shrestha, 1st Vice-President, Ajay Ratna Sthapit, 2nd Vice-President, Shyam S. L. Kakshapati, Secretary General, executive members M.A. Lari and Binod Shanker Shrestha, legal advisor Gandhi Pandit, advisor Rajendra Bahadur Shrestha and executive director Madhav Om Shrestha.
